ENVASS (Pty) Ltd, North West Branch, again hosted the quarterly environmental seminar on Friday, 02 March 2018.
The session was attended by various medium and large mining houses such as Glencore Mining, Samancor, Canyon Coal, Impala Platinum, SABrix, Ilangabi and PPC Group Services.
The previous ENVASS environmental seminar, which was hosted in November 2017, focussed on legal and functional roles of the ECO (Environmental Control Officer), presented in detail by Dr Wessels from the NWU. Dr Wessels as key note speaker set the scene for more detailed functional presentations on aspects such as SASS 5 monitoring, Biodiversity Management plans as well as a technical overview of the transition of the ISO 14001 EMS.
This March 2018 working session was able to extend the knowledge base and focussed on mine closure regulations, methods and developments as well as the progress on the implementation of GNR1147. The information was presented by ENVASS Director Mr. Emile van Druten and a keynote speaker from the legal firm, Tabacks. The following topics were covered during the session:

Mr. van Druten was able to explain the progress and steps toward implementation of GNR1147 and his presentation was augmented by experiential contributions from the in-house mine closure division of ENVASS headed by senior mine closure specialist and Director, Emile van Druten.
